About St Mary's Primary School

Ìý

St Mary's Primary School, Scone provides a flexible learning environment for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 with modern and engaging facilities.

The contemporary learning approach used at St Mary’s is personalised, stimulating, and responds to the learning needs, interests and experiences of each student. The school’s well-resourced library has a wide selection of printed material and video-conferencing facilities, each classroom has an interactive SMART Board and all students have equal opportunities to access a variety of portable devices, including HP streams, laptops, iPads and chromebooks.

St Mary’s offers a range of sports across their internal and external sporting program including athletics, gymnastics, swimming, cross country, football, rugby league, hockey, tennis, netball, basketball, golf and horse sports. St Mary’s provides opportunities for students to gain selection into representative squads on an individual and team basis including local, Maitland-Newcastle Diocesan and Combined Catholic Schools (NSW) levels. Students can also participate in coaching clinics and gala days in a wide variety of sports.

St Mary’s is a community where the creative, unique and individual talents of every student are greatly appreciated, embraced and encouraged. All students have the opportunity to discover, strengthen and express their creative abilities through music, drama and dance. Students can participate in local eisteddfods, audition for ASPIRE, receive private music lessons from the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music, join the school choir or percussion ensemble, participate in the Kia-Ora three-day workshop, join the chess team and compete in public speaking and debating. Meditation, coding and modelling are also available to interested students during their lunch break.

St Mary’s values its interaction with its local community, encouraging students to develop a sense of belonging to and responsibility for their community as citizens. This is achieved through participation in Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, regular visits to the aged care facility at Scone Base Hospital, attendance at the Scone Horse Week Festival and participation in the local Landcare group and Parish community building activities. Students also organise fundraising events for charities such as for the World’s Greatest Shave.

The school’s active Mini-Vinnies group undertakes a variety of activities throughout the year to promote and support the work of charities especially Catholic Missions. The School Captains are members of the Upper Hunter Youth Council which also organises and conducts a variety of activities for students of all the schools in the local area.

A wonderful childcare service is provided at St Mary’s, operating from 6am to 9am and 3.15pm to 6pm each school day and provides holiday programs during term breaks.

Students ofÌýSt Mary's Primary School, Scone are encouraged to continue their Catholic education for Years 7 to 12 by attendingÌýSt Joseph's High School, Aberdeen.
