About Holy Spirit Infants School

Holy Spirit Infants School, Abermain is an integral part of The Vineyards Catholic Pastoral Region of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. Our school’s story is a special one and we have built a solid reputation for providing spiritual enrichment, quality teaching and learning, cultural and sporting experiences within a safe, supportive and connected faith community within our unique K-2 setting.

Our focus is on the Early Learner as we strive through our teaching to spark curiosity and wonder for learning; sociability skills; perseverance and resilience when things are tough and a strong sense of belonging to our Catholic school community. As such, we have the wellbeing and development of the “whole child” as the focus of all we do. We are advocates for play as a pedagogy and self-directed play for our students. Through play based learning all students develop problem-solving skills and capabilities which utilise creative thinking.

Holy Spirit Infants uses contemporary evidence-based teaching and learning that is personalised and responds to the learning needs, interests and experiences of each student. Our learning environment encourages students to adapt, apply and transfer new skills and knowledge, embrace technology and equip themselves with skills that will allow them to be lifelong learners.

We proudly provide many opportunities for all students to increase cultural knowledge of, and pride in, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We are committed to the development of respectful understanding of the history of Australia’s indigenous peoples. The school celebrates special days and Aboriginal perspectives are embedded across all areas of the curriculum.

As an inclusive school, Holy Spirit Infants employs a Learning Support Teacher who works with students who have recognised learning disabilities. Students are also well supported by the school psychologist, Aboriginal and EAL/D teachers. Our school is also a Gifted Education Lead (GEL) school, with a Gifted Education Mentor (GEM) who works with staff to support the needs of identified gifted students.

Holy Spirit Infants hosts two satellite classes for Hunter Aspect School. ASPECT staff members provide specialised support services for children with Autism enrolled with ASPECT.
